چکیده
Abstract This study provides an overview and discussion of controls on the distribution organic reefs during Early Ordovican Period, in Yangtze Platform, a region epicontinental sedimentary rocks South China. The Platform was located low latitudes Ordovician recorded rich diverse through that time. During late Tremadocian Epoch, dolomitic stratiform stromatolites were common supratidal to intertidal zones western while columnar formed deeper waters eastern Platform. Skeletal-dominated occurred upper subtidal settings central A transition from microbial-dominated metazoan-dominated with shallowing-upward cycles evident, indicating composition main reef-builders driven mainly by water depth. Increasing metazoan competition Great Biodiversification Event reduced abundance microbial reefs. Sufficient nutrient supply is interpreted have promoted development skeletal-dominated locally shallow especially represented expansion abundant solitary fossils lithistid sponges Calathium . High salinity environmental facilitated bloom near-shore locations. Low oxygen content deep may led absence skeletal these habitats, so mass occurrences shallower-water platform. No keratose sponge-bearing stromatolite can be confirmed across platform this interval.

Review and palaeoecological analysis of the late Tremadocian – early Floian (Early Ordovician) cephalopod fauna of the Montagne Noire, France
By comparison with the relatively diverse Early Ordovician cephalopod faunas that lived in association with the low latitude carbonate platforms (e.g. Laurentia [Flower 1964]; Siberia [Balashov 1961]; China [Chen 1976]), those of the high latitude margins of Gondwana are of relatively low diversity, generally poorly known, and where known, often in need of revision. Of those high latitudinal as...
متن کاملThe magnitude and duration of Late Ordovician-Early Silurian glaciation.
Understanding ancient climate changes is hampered by the inability to disentangle trends in ocean temperature from trends in continental ice volume. We used carbonate "clumped" isotope paleothermometry to constrain ocean temperatures, and thereby estimate ice volumes, through the Late Ordovician-Early Silurian glaciation. We find tropical ocean temperatures of 32° to 37°C except for short-lived...
متن کاملOrdovician paleomagnetism of eastern Yunnan, China
Three magnetic components have been isolated in Ordovician formations of the Yangtze Paraplatform (South China Block). Two of these (Daqing A and Hongshiya B components) yield paleopoles that conform to the Carboniferous to Triassic segment of the apparent polar w•der path for South China, and are therefore interpreted as remagnetizations. The third component (declination/inclination = 30!ø/+66...
